No 5$ Menu

The Eyeopener November 21, 2018

The $5 menu at the Ram in the Rye is off the table. During the Ryerson Students’ Union (RSU) election campaign last winter, the Unify slate—the party led by the current executives—promised to introduce a discounted menu at the campus pub if elected.

A feasibility report on the menu was then conducted by the head chef in the Student Campus Centre (SCC) kitchen. After reviewing the report, the Palin Foundation, the administrative body on campus responsible for maintaining SCC facilities, decided the $5 menu wasn’t feasible.

I also want to create a $5 menu at the Ram in the Rye. Food insecurity is a big problem on campus and I want to address that head on. I believe that any student with a $5 bill should be able to get a plate of clean, healthy food, no questions asked. Students are paying $126 into this organization every year. The least we can do is give them clean, healthy food

[Unify’s] subsidized menu initiative can help students who are on a budget. Ryerson is known as a commuter school and we as students pay tons of money for transportation so why pay more for food.
